How to Brew a Perfectly Proper Pot of Tea
Brewing tea is considered an art form in some cultures. In China there are "Tea Colleges" where experts study the art, science and history of brewing the perfect blend. Here's a quick guide to making a cup of tea fit for a queen.
Step One: Boiling the Water
Fill your kettle with cold, fresh water. Filtered or spring water is considered ideal. Bring the water to a boil and remove from heat: ideally you want your water to be just under the boiling point.
Step 2: "Hotting the Pot"
Pour freshly boiled water into a teapot and swirl it around so that it warms the ceramic. Then discard water. Warming the teapot allows the tea to unfurl and deliver maximum flavor, while keeping the tea at it's ideal temperature
Step 3: Add tea to pot and combine with hot water
Add your tea to the teapot and cover with the water heated according to the instructions in step one, that is, fresh cold water that is just below the boiling point.
Step 4: Cover the teapot and steep for 3-5 minutes. Cute Tea Cozy optional!
Don't steep too long or your tea will become bitter; it might take a little experimenting to find the perfect time for your tastes.
Step 5: Strain tea leaves and pour the tea into a teacup.
