Black Mission Figs have been documented throughout history as a food source for over 11,000 years. They began being cultivated in ancient Egypt, even though they are believed to have originated in western Asia. They still largely cultivated in northern Africa and throughout the eastern Mediterranean, specifically Greece and Turkey. Unlike many other fruits, the health benefits of figs actually increase after drying.
Figs are delicious with spread with goat cheese and drizzled with honey. They make an excellent compliment to a cheese plate, and are a healthy and filling snack all by themselves.
